California Seeks Comment on eHealth Patient Authorization Guidance Tool
A 60-day public comment period is now open through June 28, 2013
The California Health and Human Services Agency (CHHS) Office of Health Information Integrity (CalOHII) has released the eHealth Patient Authorization Guidance Tool.
A 60-day public comment period is now open through June 28, 2013. Please send comments and feedback to Rupinder Colby at email@example.com.
The Authorization Tool and supporting clarification documents can be accessed on the CalOHII website: Authorization Tool Public Comment
Development of the Authorization Tool was a result of feedback provided to CHHS from stakeholders at the 2012 HIE Summit. During the Summit, CHHS became aware of concerns that, as the state pushes for the adoption of health information technology and widespread electronic exchange of health information, guidance on requirements for obtaining patient authorization or consent to this exchange is essential.
This Authorization Tool is intended to be used for provider to provider exchange of health information for treatment purposes. It is only a draft and is for review and feedback only. It is not intended to be used in practice at this time.
