Funding Agencies

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Rural Health Pilot Project will provide California with up to $22.1 million over three years to install broadband infrastructure and connections and to provide subsidized rates to Pilot Project Sites.  This grant was awarded in November 2007.   An additional grant, the Broadband Opportunities & Training Program (BTOP) will provide $9 million in funding for telehealth equipment and training.

Additional funding for the CTN has been provided by:

  • The California Emerging Technology Fund (CETF)
  • UnitedHealth/PacifiCare
  • The California Health Care Foundation (CHCF)
  • National Coalition for Health Integration (NCHI)

In addition, the University of California has provided substaintial in-kind support for the development of the CTN.  As the lead agency for the grant, UC managed the telecommunications procurement and is assisting in tranferring CTN into a free standing non profit organization.

 The California EmergingTechnology Fund: provides leadership statewide to close the “Digital Divide” by accelerating the deployment and adoption of broadband to unserved and underserved communities and populations.

United Health / PacificCare

The California Health Care Foundation:  With a vision of better health care for all, the Foundation focuses its effort in these areas:

  • Improving clinical outcomes and quality of life for Californians with chronic disease.
  • Reducing barriers to efficient, affordable health care for the underserved.
  • Promoting greater transparency and accountability in California’s health care system.
  • Supporting the implementation of health reform and advancing the effectiveness of California’s public coverage programs.

The National Coalition for Health Integration (NCHI)
